Loretta Terrigno

Loretta Terrigno, a native of Monroe (N.Y.), earned her PhD in music theory and musicology from the City University of New York, the Graduate Center. She holds a bachelor's in piano performance and a master’s in piano performance and music theory from the Mannes College of Music, where she studied piano with Yuri Kim and music theory with Carl Schachter. Her dissertation, “The Protagonist’s Experience: Temporality, Narrative, and Harmonic Process in Brahms’s Solo Lieder,” explores interactions between 19th-century tonal techniques and temporality in Brahms’s songs. Her articles and book reviews appear in the journals Music Research Forum Notes: the Quarterly Journal of the Music Library Association and Nineteenth-Century Music Review. She has presented research on temporality in the German Lied at regional and international conferences including Music Theory Society of New York State and KeeleMAC. In addition to text-music relationships in nineteenth-century German art song, her research interests include performance and analysis studies, music theory pedagogy, and musical narrative. She is a board member-at-large for the Music Theory Society of New York State and serves on the editorial board of The Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy Online.
