Juilliard's stages were alive with the sounds of jazz in October. The Juilliard Jazz Ensemble, along with guest artist Mulgrew Miller, opened its season with “Blues in the Church” in Paul Hall on October 1. Just a few days later, a star-studded cast which included Leslie Uggams (pictured) took the stage in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater celebrating the life and work of Juilliard alum Luther Henderson. Third-year jazz piano student Kristopher Bowers, the recipient of the new Luther Henderson Scholarship that the evening's proceeds bolstered, was congratulated by Billie Allen-Henderson, Luther’s widow.
