Transfer Students/Advanced Standing Policy Transfer status is available only to those accepted into
undergraduate programs in Dance, Drama, and Music who have completed
work at a post-secondary institution after graduating from high school.
Advanced standing is based entirely on faculty evaluations of the
student's capabilities and by the placement exams that are administered
after acceptance.
Transfer applicants who enroll in the Drama Division should be aware
that the actor-training is a mandatory four-year program. Transfer
applicants who enroll in the Dance Division should be aware that it,
too, is a four-year program, although some very advanced students may
be allowed to complete the program in three years. Music Division
students are required to complete at least two years at Juilliard and
must have a total of four years undergraduate work.
Liberal arts courses taken at accredited conservatories, colleges,
or universities may be transferred after the Registrar has assessed the
official transcripts from those institutions. Credits in those subjects
will be evaluated in light of the liberal arts requirements in the
Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs at
Juilliard. Credit will not be allowed for courses in which the
applicant has received a grade lower than C or its equivalent. Transfer
students are required to take a minimum of 12 liberal arts credits in
residence at Juilliard. No transfer credit is given for Advanced Placement courses or college courses taken while in high school.
