Additional Opportunities

The following are additional opportunities for students to supplement their income while studying at Juilliard. Please note that these programs are not administered by the Financial Aid Office.

Gluck Community Service Fellowship Program

This program provides students with the opportunity to perform in hospitals, hospices, and similar institutions in the New York metropolitan area. Each fellow performs regularly throughout the year at participating health care facilities, giving students valuable experience as artists and communicators. Community Service Fellowships are awarded to students who have displayed a strong interest in sharing their artistry with the community. Further information about the program is available from the Office of Educational Outreach.

Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition

Held each May, the Gina Bachauer Competition provides winners with major tuition scholarships to Juilliard. The competition is open to all students applying for graduate programs in piano, as well as currently enrolled students above the first year undergraduate level. To qualify, students applying for graduate programs must apply during the February-March entrance audition period. Only those students who receive the highest faculty recommendation on their jury exams or audition forms will be invited to participate.

The repertoire for all participants must include substantial works representing different periods in order to total at least 50 minutes of music (concertos are not allowed). All programs must be submitted to the Executive Projects Office in advance of the competition.

More information is available from the Executive Projects Office, (212) 799-5000, ext. 7288.

Teaching Fellowships and Faculty Assistantships

Each year Juilliard awards teaching fellowships to a limited number of advanced students. Teaching fellowships are available in the departments of Literature and Materials of Music, Ear Training, Music History, Piano for Non-Majors, Liberal Arts, and a few other areas. They are generally awarded to students already in the School whom the faculty have had the opportunity to observe over a period of time. Most fellowships are assigned by the respective departments on the basis of application and interview. Faculty and departmental assistantships are also assigned in certain areas. Faculty assistants do not teach but assist faculty members with classes and departmental duties. Further information on both fellowships and assistantships is available from the Office of Academic Affairs.
