This entry-level course is an introduction to the theoretical and practical aspects of electronic music, including audio and MIDI sequencing, digital notation, sampling, digital sound recording, editing, and processing. Students listen to a variety of relevant music examples throughout the course. Key software pieces and hardware packages are examined in detail by creating musical examples in class. Similar musical exercises are assigned to students as homework and discussed during the following class, as are reading and listening assignments. Group discussions and collaboration are encouraged. Students receive hands-on training with the technology covered in the course. Not subject to N.Y. Philharmonic discount.
