This course introduces students to the concepts and techniques of jazz improvisation. By listening to and studying the solos of great improvisers throughout jazz history, students learn to identify the inner workings of improvisation and develop better listening skills in the process. Students then use this “toolkit” to explore and enhance their own playing while developing an individual sound. Students are guided in creating a personal practice method that will help them to reach their musical goals. Not subject to N.Y. Philharmonic discount.
