A two-semester course
Description:
Going beyond the notes, this course explores common elements shared by different composers from throughout piano literature. Students examine the myriad of markings found in a score and compare how they are used by various composers to express musical ideas. Works from the Classical period to present day are studied and performed with a focus on tempo, phrasing, and articulation as an indispensable part of the composer’s language. Audition required. Not subject to N.Y. Philharmonic discount.
