Monday 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Begins September 14 (fall), January 11 (spring)
A two-semester course
Description:
This course focuses on the shorter masterpieces of great composers, especially bicentennial composers Chopin, Schumann, and Mendelssohn, as well as their contemporaries, Liszt and Brahms. Students learn to select suitable encore pieces and have an opportunity to present them in class. These shorter pieces are ideal for the class format as they allow students to study many pieces during the semester and to explore in-depth the character of each piece, musical interpretation, and appropriate techniques. Audition required. Not subject to N.Y. Philharmonic discount.
