Title:
Breaking Barriers: Classical Music in an Age of Pop

Course Code:
GRMUS E615
Credits:
2 credits
Hours:
2 hours weekly
Offered:
Spring

Instructors:
Mr. Sandow

Description:

What does classical music mean in an age dominated by rock and other pop music styles? This course will explore the history of classical music, finding parallels to current pop practices. As we study the history of rock, we will make musical and social analyses of styles ranging from doo-wop to rap. A look at the pop music business will reveal how pop music is marketed. All of this will help us determine what classical music offers today, and how it can best present itself.
