This seminar is a response to changing conditions in society: the elimination of music education programs from public schools, declining audience numbers, and reduced funding for orchestras and chamber ensembles. Solutions to these issues will be explored through public service performance. Exercises and lectures by faculty and guest speakers are intended to teach skills, resulting in greater confidence and success in creating performance opportunities as well as developing informed, appreciative audiences. This course may substitute for the senior-year Departmental Seminar.
