Juilliard’s graduate-level conducting program, established in 1972, has a strong record of achievement, having trained many of today’s most prominent orchestral conductors. The department is currently led by renowned conductor and Juilliard alumnus Alan Gilbert, the music director of the New York Philharmonic.

As a conducting student at Juilliard, you will work closely with Maestro Gilbert and enjoy regular opportunities to rehearse with the Conductors’ Lab Orchestra, a paid student orchestra. Public performances of the Conductors’ Lab Orchestra take place biannually in Alice Tully Hall as part of the popular Wednesdays at One series.
