The Juilliard School opens its classroom doors to the public through the Evening Division.
Most Evening Division students are working adults who range in age
from 18 through 98. Some are artists who want to improve their performance
skills. Others are not musicians, but people who want to develop their
listening skills in order to enhance their enjoyment of the arts.
Classes are taught by renowned experts in the music and performing-arts
worlds, including faculty members from the College Division. Class levels
range from beginning to advanced. Each semester, the curriculum includes
50 to 60 courses that cover classical music in all its forms, along
with a sprinkling of world music, jazz, and Broadway musicals. Some
may be taken for credit toward a degree program at Juilliard or elsewhere.
Many of the classes include rare recordings or videotapes, and appearances
by guest artists. Most start after 5:30 p.m. and finish by 8 p.m. All
classes, both credit and non-credit, are taught at the high standards
that make Juilliard the world's leading school for the performing arts.
