Mail-in or Fax Registration
Students may fax or mail in their registration for selected courses. If your course requires an audition, placement exam, or interview, you may not register without faculty approval (with teacher's signature). Registration is processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who submit by mail must send their completed registration form, along with the exact payment by check, money order, or credit card (American Express, MasterCard, or Visa). Mail-in registrations must be postmarked 10 days prior to the first day of class.

Students who register by fax must pay by credit card (American Express, MasterCard, or Visa). Please do not fax a duplicate copy of a registration form that has been mailed, as this could result in additional credit card charges. To confirm fax receipt, students should call the Evening Division office the following business day. In the event that your credit card is declined due to insufficient funds or improper account number, your registration will not be processed.

Make-up Classes

Classes may be cancelled due to severe winter weather or any other unforeseen event that may disrupt public transportation. These class cancellations will be announced on the Juilliard website home page and on the Evening Division voice mail system. Individual phone calls will not be made. Upon resumption of the normal schedule, instructors will inform their respective classes regarding a make-up schedule.

If a faculty member should cancel a class session due to an emergency or an illness, the Evening Division office will try to contact the students of that class by phone or email. When the faculty member returns to class, he or shee will schedule a make-up session with the students.

Withdrawals and Refunds
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must submit a request in writing. Ceasing to attend a class or notification to the instructor does not constitute an official withdrawal. Students may mail-in, fax, or hand in-person their written requests for withdrawal. No requests for withdrawals by telephone will be accepted. Refunds are computed from the day on which written notice of withdrawal is received. Cancellation of payment does not constitute withdrawal or reduce the financial obligations to Juilliard. A $25 fee will be charged for returned and stop-payment checks. Withdrawal from class does not necessarily entitle a student to a refund or to a cancellation of tuition still due. Refunds will be processed within 10 days of receiving written notice.

Refunds are issued as follows:

  • 100 % tuition refunded for withdrawals submitted prior to the first day of class.
  • 75% tuition refunded for withdrawals submitted after the first week of class.
  • 50% tuition refunded for withdrawals submitted after the second week of class.
  • No refunds issued for requests after the third week of class.

Discounts
The following discounts are applicable for those registering by mail, fax, or in person. Students must ask for the following discounts by filling the discount name in the proper line on the registration form. Please do not assume we have your discount information on record. Only one discount is given per person. The Evening Division will not give discounts retroactively.

  • Online discounts: Returning students who have received senior citizen discounts in the past will receive the discount automatically when registering online. If you received the New York Philharmonic discount for a fall semester class, you will receive the discount when registering via online for the spring term. New York Philharmonic subscribers must submit their subscription number to the Evening Division Office once each academic year (September-May).
  • Senior citizens (65 years of age and older) receive a 10% discount on tuition for all classes. There is no discount for non-refundable fees. Proof of age (such as a Medicare card, driver's license, or passport) is required. Please do not send original documents with the mail-in registration.
  • New York Philharmonic subscribers receive a 15% discount on selected non-credit courses (unless otherwise noted).
  • Juilliard Ovation Society Members at the $2,500 level or higher receive a 25% discount on all courses.

Library Usage
Students are welcome to study and read in the Lila Acheson Wallace Library, located on the fifth floor. You must pay the $30 library fee (per semester) if you wish to check out books or scores. Students are not allowed to check out recordings. Hours are as follows:

    Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
    Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 7 pm.
    Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    Sunday, 2 – 7 p.m.

Fines are charged at the rate of 25 cents per item per day for overdue books and scores. Outstanding library fines may prevent a student from registering or from receiving a transcript. The loss of books and scores should be reported immediately to the library, in order to prevent the accumulation of overdue fines. Charges for current replacement cost, plus a $25 service fee, are imposed for lost materials. No food or drink may be brought into the library.

ID Cards and Security
All students require a Juilliard identification card for entrance into the School. Evening students may pick-up their ID cards from the Evening Division Office on the first evening of class.
