Historical performance, jazz, and orchestral performances in the U.S., Europe, and Australasia, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, and Melbourne Symphony. Former principal bass with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra; guest principal bass with the Halle Orchestra, London Mozart Players, and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Has been principal bass with the Handel and Haydn Society and has worked with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, Aulos Ensemble, Rebel, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, among others. Festivals: Salzburg, Baden-Baden, Aldeburgh, Glyndebourne, and the London Proms under Sir Simon Rattle, Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Masur, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Christopher Hogwood, Sir Roger Norrington, and others. Active in commissioning new works; has premiered more than 40 compositions for both solo bass and chamber music featuring bass. In 2009 premiered a concerto by Barry Conyngham. Recordings for Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, Sony, EMI, Virgin, ABC Classics, and Channel Classics. Faculty, Penn State U., since 1999.
