Robert “Bert” Wilson received his Ph.D. in applied linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his M.S. in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) from Florida International University, a program that included an assignment as a teacher educator in the Philippines with the U.S. Peace Corps. Wilson’s scholarship focuses on how individuals use language to index ethnic identity. He has conducted ethnographic research with Uyghur communities in northwest China and has had work published in China and the Humanities: At the Crossroads of the Human and the Humane.
