Rooms are arranged in suite style, with several individual bedrooms sharing a common area and bathroom. The rate includes linens, towels, and Internet ports in every room. June is a wonderful time to visit New York, but please be aware that many others agree, so it is advisable to book YOUR LODGING as far in advance as possible. Rates and amenities are subject to change, so please check hotel Web sites for the most up-to-date information. Rates listed do not include the 13.38% hotel tax and $4 per day room occupancy tax, so please take these into account when budgeting your trip. Many New York hotels have AAA and AARP discounts of around 10%. If these apply to you, don’t forget to ask when you call to book, and remember to bring your membership card with you to New York.
Below you will find more information about hotels in various price ranges, but should you wish to consult Web resources for further information, reviews, and other suggestions, it is best to search for hotels in or near Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Rush-hour traffic and commuting in New York can be unpredictable, and larger distances can add considerably to your commute time. However, the Theater District, Midtown West, Chelsea, the West Village, Harlem, and East Side locations near Central Park around 66th Street are located on more reliable transportation routes, and could be reasonably considered for those wishing to stay farther afield.
For those coming with families or arranging the time as a work vacation in New York City, we will try to help find the right combination of convenience, location, and elegance tailored for special needs. We hope your experience of the Institute will be further enriched by the electrifying atmosphere of New York City, and program facilitator Ray Lustig (a native New Yorker) will be happy to help you make the most of your time here. He may be reached by e-mail at RJL@juilliard.edu.
For the fitness-minded: accommodations in New York may be tighter and less elaborate than elsewhere in the country, so don’t assume amenities such as fitness centers unless they are specifically mentioned in the hotel description. As for fitness, however, you may wish to consider doing like a New Yorker and taking advantage of beautiful Central Park for a run, walk, or bike ride. There are numerous bicycle rental companies in and around Central Park.
