About

Music Theory faculty member Ruka Shironishi, born in Tokyo, Japan, is a faculty member at Mannes College and adjunct lecturer at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. She has given scholarly presentations at the Mannes Graduate Student Conference and annual meetings of the Musicological Society of Japan. She is a recipient of the Enhanced Chancellor’s Fellowship from the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research interests include Schenkerian Analysis and Early 20th Century French music, especially Debussy’s. Shironishi has been an Evening Division faculty member since fall 2015. She received her bachelor’s degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and her master’s degree from Mannes College. She studied theory with Car Schachter, Joseph Straus, William Rothstein, and Robert Cuckson. She studied piano with Sharon Mann, Peggy Salkind, and Miriam Kartch.
