On Thursday, October 10, Juilliard Club members and guests were treated to an intimate discussion and presentation with Juilliard alumnus and current rising star of the composition world, Nico Muhly (M.M. '04, composition). Dean Ara Guzelimian spoke with Nico about his experience at Juilliard, career as a composer, multifaceted artistic collaborations, his time working with Philip Glass ('62), and Nico's upcoming debut of his opera Two Boys at the Met (opening Oct. 21). Interspersed throughout the discussion, Nico presented media clips of his work including excerpts from Jónsi's Boy Lilikoi, a choral piece entitled Senex Puerum Portabat, and a video trailer for Two Boys — as well as a live piano performance of Philip Glass's Étude No. 12. A cocktail reception followed in the Rosemary and Meredith Willson Theater lobby. (Photos by Justin Astafanous)
