The Juilliard School presents “Leading Ladies,” a gala concert and dinner dance with performances by Tony Award winners, Broadway legend and concert artist Barbara Cook and actress, singer, and Juilliard alumna Audra McDonald, on Monday April 28, 2008. Actress Laura Linney is honorary alumni chair for the evening whose co-chairs include Karen M. Levy and Saundra Whitney. The gala concert takes place at 7 PM in Juilliard’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater (155 West 65th Street), followed by a black tie dinner at 8 PM in the tent at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.

Proceeds from the evening will help Juilliard in continuing to build on its tradition of artistic excellence, as it moves into its second century as the nation’s preeminent performing arts conservatory. For further information on purchasing benefit tables and tickets, call Ms. Anita Hall at Buckley Hall Events at (914) 579-1000.

Barbara Cook has starred on Broadway in Flahooley, Candide, The Gay Life, The Music Man, and She Loves Me. She received a Tony Award for her performance as Marian in the original Broadway cast of The Music Man and was nominated for a Tony for her one-woman show Mostly Sondheim. Ms. Cook recently celebrated her 80th birthday and marked the occasion with concerts in Los Angeles, New York, and London. She made her solo concert debut at the Metropolitan Opera in January 2006. The evening, which was sold-out, also was released on DRG Records.

Audra McDonald earned an unprecedented three Tony Awards before the age of 30 for her roles in Carousel, Master Class, and Ragtime, and a fourth in 2004 for A Raisin in the Sun. A graduate of Juilliard, Ms. McDonald currently can be seen on the new ABC television series Private Practice. In September 2006, she released her first solo album in four years, Build A Bridge, on Nonesuch Records. She made her Los Angeles Opera debut in February 2007 as Jenny in John Doyle’s production of Kurt Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, conducted by James Conlon, also a Juilliard alumnus.
