Programs & Activities
Social and Educational Programs
The Residence Life Office hosts more than 140 programs each year, allowing students the opportunity to break free from their rigorous daily routine. Some programs are entirely social in nature, while others have an educational spin designed to give students the tools to succeed both in and out of the artistic realm. Some of the programs that have taken place in the residence hall include Halloween Haunted House, Midnight Breakfast, and Market Your Art. There is always something to do in the residence hall!
Horizons
Horizons seminars provide students with useful and interesting information that they may not receive through their regular school curriculum. Each session is designed to expand the mind and develop important skills that performing artists can use throughout their careers and lives. Horizons seminars cover a variety of topics including, but not limited to, leadership, diversity, health, personal finance, communication skills, career exploration, drug/alcohol education, and general life skills. Requests and recommendations for topics and guest speakers are always welcome!
Students hoping to live in the residence hall beyond their first year should attend six Horizons seminars over the course of the fall and spring semesters in order to participate in the housing lottery in May. With over 60 Horizons offered each year, there are plenty of opportunities! For more information, contact the Residence Life Office at reslife@juilliard.edu.
Special Interest Groups
Juilliard’s Special Interest Groups provide students with a unique avenue to share and explore common interests. All current students, on or off campus, are invited to participate and can utilize group resources to plan events, host meetings, or simply meet-and-greet fellow students. Special Interest Groups are entirely student-led with support from the Office of Residence Life staff, and constantly adapt to fit the needs of the participants. Current Special Interest Groups include: Culinary Arts, the Green Group (environmental awareness), Artists in Action (community service), Spirituality, Health and Fitness, and Professional Transitions (with the Office of Career Services). For more information, contact the Residence Life Office at reslife@juilliard.edu.
Residence Hall Congress
Residence Hall Congress (R.H.C.) is the student governing body of the residence hall. The organization hosts regular meetings, plans events, serves as a liaison between students and administrators, and provides recommendations to improve and enhance the residential experience. R.H.C. traditions include the annual Halloween Haunted House, Christmas Party, and “The Rezzies” (residence hall awards event). R.H.C. is an excellent way for students to share their opinions and gain valuable leadership experience. For more information, contact the Residence Life Office at reslife@juilliard.edu.
