Pre-College Students Featured in March Concerts
By ANDREW THOMAS

The Pre-College Division has a busy schedule in March, both in the Juilliard Theater and in Paul Hall. On Saturday, March 9, at 8 p.m., the division will present the second concert of its chamber music series in the Juilliard Theater. The Pre-College chamber music department coaches nearly 70 groups each year, and the concert in the theater will showcase some of the finest in the school. No tickets are required for this event.

On Saturday, March 16, at 8 p.m., conductor Adam Glaser will lead the Pre-College Symphony in a program that includes Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande, Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5, and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Marie-Elise McNeeley, a student of Shirley Givens, will perform in the Mozart Concerto. No tickets are required for this concert.

Adam Glaser will return to the Juilliard Theater on Saturday, March 23, at 8 p.m., as guest conductor of the Pre-College Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Timothy Andres’ Piano Concerto, Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33, and Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien, Op. 45. Timothy Andres, a composition student of Eric Ewazen, will be the soloist in his own Piano Concerto, which he also performed last November with the Norwalk Symphony, conducted by Jonathan Sheffer. The soloist for the Tchaikovsky Variations will be Caroline Ami Connoly, a student of Ardyth Alton. Free tickets are required for this event.

The Pre-College Division also presents solo recitals in Paul Hall on Saturdays, starting at noon, and in Morse Hall, starting at 4 p.m. These concerts are open to the public, and the School encourages interested people to hear the extraordinary talent of the Pre-College musicians.

As a bonus, there will be two faculty piano recitals in Paul Hall during March, both starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday, March 9, Antonio Fermin will present a piano recital and on Saturday, March 23, the pianist Victoria Mushkatkol will be heard in recital.

March is, in many ways, a typical month for the Pre-College Division. Our activities throughout the academic year are filled will concerts and recitals. We cordially invite you to attend.

Andrew Thomas is director of the Pre-College Division.
