Fulbright Grants 2003-04
May 1, 2002 is the official opening of the 2003-04 competition for Fulbright Grants in academic fields and for professional training in the creative and performing arts. Available for study and research, Fulbright Grants provide roundtrip international travel, maintenances for the tenure of the award, and tuition waivers, if applicable. All grants include health and accident insurance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens at the time of application, must have a bachelors degree or four years of equivalent training/study, and are required to have sufficient proficiency in the language of the host country to carry out their proposed study or research.
Students currently enrolled at Juilliard should contact Karen Wagner, vice president for Academic Affairs, in Room 221 for brochures and applications. The deadline for receipt of applications is SEPTEMBER 25, 2002. Applications will be reviewed by committee prior to being forwarded to the Institute of International Education (IIE) for the October 25 deadline.

- Check the blue recital schedule book located in the Concert Office for available times, but do not write in this book. Choose your preferred date carefully, and check for other performance conflicts. There is a $100 fee for changes or cancellations made within two months of your recital date.
- Fill out the RECITAL REQUEST APPLICATION before booking your recital with the Concert Office. If you are booking a REQUIRED recital, you need not have your teachers signature at the time of booking, but it must be obtained and returned to the Concert Office by Dec. 15. If booking a NON-REQUIRED recital, all recitalists (solo and joint), must have a teachers signature before a time will be booked.
- PROGRAM INFORMATION and STAGE SET-UP DIAGRAMS are due two weeks prior to your recital. Programs must be typed and signed by your teacher before submission. Large ensemble pieces are not allowed without prior written approval of the Concert Office. A 30-minute “Dress Rehearsal” in the Recital Hall may be booked when all of the above information has been received.
- Graduating students must return the INTENT TO GRADUATE form (complete with the recital date, teachers signature, and Concert Office signature) to the Registrars Office by December 15, 2002.
Requests for Professional Leaves
Students whose outside performance opportunities will take them away from school for six days or more should turn in the professional leave request form (available in the Deans Office) as soon as possible, but at least six weeks before the intended departure date. Any requests for September or October should be submitted by May 15.
L&M Composition Contest Winners

Pictured are Jared Snyder (first-year cellist in L&M I, who won for Best Baroque Dance Suite Movement) and Asya Kozhevnikova (first-year pianist in L&M II, who won for Best Fugue or Invention) with Edward Bilous, chair of L&M. Not pictured are Ching-Wen Hsiao, Wen-Ling Shih, and Katherine Bryan, who won for Best Original Composition in L&M IV.
Juilliard Choral Union Auditions
The Juilliard Choral Union, a New York City community-based symphonic chorus comprised of more than 130 singers from the metropolitan area and enrolled graduate and undergraduate Juilliard students, as well as Juilliard administrators and staff members, will be holding auditions throughout the month of August and in early September. The chorus performs at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and at Juilliard. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings, from 7-10 p.m. at The Juilliard School. Repertoire for the 2002-03 season includes: Mozart's Requiem; Handel's Coronation Anthems; Vivaldi's Gloria; Schoenberg's Survivor from Warsaw; and Britten's War Requiem. There will also be a master class with Sir Roger Norrington.
