All required recitals must be booked by October 5, 2001
- Check the blue recital schedule book located in the Concert Office for available times, but do not write in this book. Choose your preferred date carefully, and check for other performance conflicts. There is a $100 fee for changes or cancellations made within two months of your recital date.
- Fill out the RECITAL REQUEST APPLICATION before booking your recital with the Concert Office. If you are booking a required recital, you need not have your teacher’s signature at the time of booking, but it must be obtained and returned to the Concert Office by Dec. 15. If booking a non-required recital, all recitalists (solo and joint) must have a teacher’s signature before a time will be booked.
- PROGRAM INFORMATION and STAGE SET-UP DIAGRAMS are due two weeks prior to your recital. Programs must be typed and signed by your teacher before submission. Large ensemble pieces are not allowed without prior written approval of the Concert Office. A dress rehearsal time in the Recital Hall may be booked when all of the above information has been received.
- Graduating students must return the INTENT TO GRADUATE form (complete with the recital date, teacher’s signature, and Concert Office signature) to the Registrar’s Office by December 15, 2001.

Educational Outreach Open House
The Office of Educational Outreach will host an Open House for Juilliard students on Friday, September 21, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Join director Aaron Flagg, associate director, Ellen Brofman, and faculty member David Wallace in room 309 for a two-hour information session and interactive workshop that will introduce you to the programs through discussion, demonstration, and role-playing. Learn about the Morse Fellowship, Instrumental Music Program, and the Community Service Fellowship. Applications for all programs will be available at the Open House. Horizons points are available.
Cartoon Contest
Hey, Drama Dudes! (And Dancers and Musicians, Too!)
OK, we know you can act, dance, play, and sing... but can you DRAW? The Juilliard Journal is looking for student-produced cartoons that put a humorous spin on the arts and/or Juilliard. Drawings must be done in black ink or dark pencil, and be no larger than 8-1/2 by 11 inches (a standard sheet of paper). Submissions can be dropped off in Room 442A or sent by interoffice mail (but please do NOT fold). Put your name and telephone number on the backm so that we can contact you. All cartoons selected for publication will net their creator a pair of movie passes... and FAME and GLORY! (OK, sort of...) For further information, call ext. 341.
Fall 2001 Career Development Seminars
Once again, The Juilliard School is pleased to offer a series of free Tuesday night seminars designed to help alumni and current Juilliard students improve their professional development skills. Come to all or just one or two sessions, and get valuable advice from industry experts that will let you take control of your career path. All seminars take place in the 11th-floor lounge of the Rose Building, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. (Note to students: You can attend these seminars for Horizons Credits. Call the Office of Residence Life, ext. 7400.)

Performing Artists: Identify Your Transferable Skills and Expand Your Income-Producing Opportunities!
In this interactive workshop especially for dancers, singers, actors, and musicians, you will be able to identify your own personal skills and abilities, and begin to generate ideas for income-producing work while still performing or for future career alternatives. The transferable skills developed from performing arts training and a liberal arts education, and how these talents can be of value in the current marketplace, will also be discussed.

Developing, Promoting, and Managing Your Ensemble From A to Z
Michael Sgouros (BM ’89, percussion) of the Ethos Percussion Ensemble, Henning Rüebsam (BFA ’91, dance) of Sensedance, and Adi Menczel (BM ’98, MM ’00, flute) and Sarah Johnson (BM ’97, MM ’99, oboe) of the Ariel Winds will share their experiences in developing, promoting, and managing their performing ensembles. Topics will include: entrepreneurship, fund-raising, residencies, public relations, self-management, and much more. If you are a member of an ensemble that is considering a professional career, then don’t miss this opportunity to learn the secrets behind these successful groups.

Passing It On: The Vast Field of Arts in Education
Join Juilliard alumni Dr. Aaron Flagg (BM ’92, MM ’93, trumpet), Director of the Juilliard Educational Outreach Program, and Gina Gutierrez (MM ’89, voice), Project Coordinator for the New York City Arts Teaching Fellows Program, for a discussion about career opportunities in arts education.
