Juilliard staff, faculty, and students convened in the Juilliard Theater on September 5 for Convocation, marking the official launch of the school year. The long-standing tradition (introduced in 1946, during the administration of William Schuman) was resumed six years ago.

Following Convocation, Juilliard community members (along with their spouses and children) moved to the plaza for the annual Opening Day Picnic, a festive opportunity to catch up on tales of summer's adventures over an outdoor meal.
