FACULTY

Evening Division faculty member Henning Rübsam's (BFA '91) company, Sensedance, presented a program titled "Merciless Beauty" in October at Joyce SoHo. The performance, dedicated to 21st-century music, included three premieres and included new music by Ricardo Llorca (MM '93, composition), Beata Moon (BM '90, piano) and Leslie Wildman. Rübsam toured with Sensedance in November through Germany, where they premiered Souvenir with live organ accompaniment to John Cage's music by the same name.

Banu Ogan and Davon Rainey performed with five other dancers in [underscore], a multimedia work by Jonah Bokaer which explores relationships between choreography, sculpture, sound, and video at An Evening of Resident Artists, presented by Chez Bushwick in October at the Abrons Arts Center in New York.

Kazuko Hirabayashi (DIP '60) was the guest choreographer for Romance, premiered by Takehiro Ueyama (DIP '95) and his Take Dance Company at the Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York in September. Also performed at the event were the premiere of Ueyama's One; two New York premieres: Untitled 1 and Are You Going With Me?; and one revival, Sakura Sakura, which won third prize at the Fourth Certamen International de Choreografia en Danza Moderna Burgos, Spain and New York in July, 2005. The company of dancers included Ueyama and Amy Young (BFA '96), a guest artist from the Paul Taylor Dance Company. In October, Ueyama taught and set his dance Tsubasa (Wings) at Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Va., where Pamela Risenhoover (BFA '80) is chair of dance department.

Terese Capucilli was featured in Against All Odds, presented by Buglisi Foreman Dance at the Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York in May. The company, which also performed New Work Project-Series No. 3 and A Playing Field-in-Progress at the event, included Helen Hansen (BFA '01), Marie Zvosec (BFA '04) and Juan Rodriguez (BFA '01).

STUDENTS

Buddy (Robert) Valdez (2008) was one of seven artists featured in Purely Tainted, a multimedia collaboration by Ditch Productions that was presented at the Puffin Room in New York in October and choreographed by Robert Robinson (BFA '05).
