Two Juilliard students—pianist Jonathan Batiste, a bachelor's degree candidate in jazz, and Isabel Leonard, an artist diploma candidate in the Juilliard Opera Center—were among the promising young artists recently honored as the first recipients of the Movado Future Legends award. In honor of its 125th anniversary, the renowned Swiss watch company asked five prestigious arts organizations each to identify a young artist still in school but displaying exceptional promise. The five Movado Future Legends each receive a $5,000 stipend, as well as a custom-designed crystal sculpture and an M/125 watch from Movado's collection. Batiste, who was selected by Jazz at Lincoln Center, received his award on November 7 at a special luncheon at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola. Leonard, who was selected by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts at the recommendation of The Juilliard School, was presented with her award on October 23 at the Helen Hull Room in Avery Fisher Hall by the conductor Valery Gergiev and Efraim Grinberg, president and chief executive officer of Movado Group, Inc.
