At a Juilliard Choral Union rehearsal on October 22 in Room 305, Jamie Bernstein Thomas, the daughter of composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, spoke to the chorus about her father and his Kaddish Symphony. The work is to be performed by the Juilliard Orchestra and Choral Union, under the baton of Gerard Schwarz, at a concert on November 10 in Avery Fisher Hall, as part of a conference titled "Only in America-Jewish Music in a Land of Freedom." Other events this fall included the annual Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition Winners Concert, a master class with violinist Ruggiero Ricci, and Drama Division performances of Tirso de Molina’s The Last Days of Don Juan. Juilliard students also participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 10th-anniversary walk, and guests from the Shanghai Arts Academy visited drama classes.
