Trip to Italy

Alumni are invited to travel to central Italy together this summer on a tour specially arranged for Juilliard! From July 15-23, 2004, the escorted tour will explore the musical and artistic riches of the region’s glorious cities and picturesque hill towns.

We will visit the quaint village of Spoleto, the great pilgrimage site of Assisi, the ideal Renaissance city of Urbino, Rossini’s seaside birthplace of Pesaro, the famed “Piero della Francesca Trail” at the Tuscan border, and delightful Perugia (to attend the Umbria Jazz Festival). We will conclude in Rome, where we will be treated to an extraordinary, private, after-hours visit to the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums, which will be opened solely for our small group!
For more information, please contact the Office of Alumni Relations at (212) 799-5000, ext. 344, or via e-mail at alumni@juilliard.edu.

Has Your Heart Been Kicked Around?

The Juilliard Journal will give two movie passes and $25 to the College Division student who writes the best 500-600 word essay, humorous or serious (no poetry please), on the topic of Valentine’s Day. Turn in your entry by January 5, 2004, to Room 442A or e-mail to jrubinsky@juilliard.edu. The winning article will be published in the February issue.

“We cannot walk alone.” —Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Life is a team effort. Someone must teach you how to walk. Someone must sustain you when you’re tired of walking. And you must help someone else with their walk. We’re all in this together.
—Daniel Morgan Shelley, drama student
Without inclusion, compassion, and a desire to learn from others, our journeys are limited and lonely.
—Ryan Prosser, Student Affairs graduate assistant
A tree does not make a forest. A drop of water cannot create an ocean. Only when human spirits come together can we form the power to take actions through beliefs And only through love can this world exist.
—Ching-Yun Hu, piano student
What does the quote mean to you? Express yourself at this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on January 19, 2004. For information about sign-up, call (212) 799-5000, ext. 200.
