James DePreist, who became Juilliard's director of conducting and orchestral studies this year, rehearsed the Juilliard Orchestra in preparation for the concert of works by Beaser, Mozart, and Prokofiev. The concert was given September 30 in the Juilliard Theater. Other events this fall included the season-opening Jazz Orchestra concert, the annual Bachauer Competition concert, and a master class by a Serbian Gypsy brass band.
