Bassoonist Marc Goldberg, a Pre-College faculty member since 1988, has become the newest member of the New York Woodwind Quintet. He succeeds Donald MacCourt, who is retiring from the ensemble this season after more than 30 years (but continues teaching). Goldberg makes his debut with the quintet—whose other members are flutist Carol Wincenc, oboist Stephen Taylor, clarinetist Charles Neidich, and hornist William Purvis—on March 21 in Paul Hall. (For details of the concert, see the Calendar on Page 28.) Goldberg, himself a Juilliard alumnus, began his studies in the Pre-College Division with Harold Goltzer and continued with him on the college level, earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees.A former associate principal bassoon of the New York Philharmonic, Goldberg has toured four continents with the Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the Boston Symphony, Orpheus, Orchestra of St. Luke's, New York Chamber Soloists, and Musicians from Marlboro. He is currently the principal bassoonist of the New York City Opera. Mr. Goldberg is also on the faculty of the Mannes College of Music, the Hartt School, Columbia University, SUNY-Purchase, and the newly formed Bard College Conservatory of Music.
