New Dances at Juilliard Edition 2003 will be unveiled in the Juilliard Theater on December 11-13. Belle: Ringing Out Loud and Strong By MAHIRA KAKKAR
Canadian playwright Florence Gibson describes her play Belle as “a reconstruction of the Reconstruction era of the United States." The play, which is being given its U.S. premiere in December here at Juilliard, is, in essence, a poetic metaphor for a period of American history. The characters in it scream, fight, shout, run, rally, march, and laugh unashamedly in their full-hearted protest against “eternal dictates.”
