Ara Guzelimian To Become School's Dean in July '07
Ara Guzelimian (photo), a senior director and the artistic advisor to Carnegie Hall since 1988, will become Juilliard’s dean beginning on July 1, 2007. Announcement of the appointment was made on August 23 by President Joseph W. Polisi. Mr. Guzelimian will work as dean-designate from January through June 2007, during a transition period with the current dean, Stephen Clapp, who is stepping down from the post to return to full-time teaching at the School. Mending Mentoring

Juilliard’s innovative Mentoring program has undergone growing pains since its inception in 2002. Last May, a Town Hall-style meeting was held to examine the program in closer detail, and to determine why is has been struggling to create a widespread culture throughout Juilliard or to become as extensively utilized and appreciated as it deserves to be. Commencement 2006 Brings Centennial to a Close
Commencement 2006 had a tall order to fill: As Juilliard’s 101st, it not only marked the conclusion of studies for the 261 bright-eyed graduates who received degrees and diplomas on May 26, but also capped a jam-packed year of centennial celebrations.
