New Staff at Juilliard

DEVELOPMENT OFFICE

Lori Bierly, assistant director of major and planned gifts, is a native of Pensylvania and a graduate of Susquehanna University in Selingsgrove, Penn. with a bachelor’s degree in music education. In May she received her master’s degree in nonprofit management from the New School University in New York. Prior to coming to Juilliard, Lori worked for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. She is also an amateur pianist and is excited about being a part of the Juilliard community.

Sarah Roth joins the Development Office in the new post of director of national outreach (and serving also as director of alumni affairs). She comes to Juilliard from Boston, where she was most recently a major gifts fund-raiser for Northeastern University during their $200 million capital campaign. Sarah received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Washington University in St. Louis, and her M.B.A. from Northeastern. She has been a professional fund-raiser for seven years, as well as a volunteer cabinet member for Washington University’s $1.5 billion campaign in Boston, and now in New York and New Jersey. As an avid lover of piano and dance, Sarah is especially delighted to be at Juilliard, where her grandfather, his brothers, and a cousin all studied.

PRESIDENT'S OFFICE

Mary Belanger becomes administrative assistant to the president, after having worked as editorial assistant in the Office of Publications since the spring of 2000. She earned degrees in piano from the University of Minnesota and Indiana University School of Music before moving to New York to pursue accompanying as a career. She was invited to serve as official accompanist for international string competitions held in Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Paraiba, Brazil, and has performed with artists such as Miriam Fried, Alexander Markov, Scott Yoo, David Jolley, and many others. Prior to coming to Juilliard, she was assistant director of the Preparatory Division at the Manhattan School of Music.

Martha Sterner becomes executive assistant to the president. She joined Juilliard in the fall of 1998 as associate registrar, after working as assistant registrar at the Manhattan School of Music. She attended Westminster Choir College and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and earned her B.S. at Eastern Michigan University. Having given up show business in favor of marriage and children, Martha tried the corporate life, designing telephone systems for the Rolm Company and selling paper for Boise Cascade and Lindenmeyer Central.

BUSINESS OFFICE
Associate vice president for financial services and controller Christine Todd comes to Juilliard after nine years at Columbia University, where she was assistant controller. Before that, she spent three years as an associate with the accounting and auditing firm Coopers & Lybrand. A C.P.A., Christine holds an M.B.A. degree from Columbia University and bachelor’s degrees in accounting and German from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She plays the clarinet in her free time, attempting to maintain some semblance of a practice schedule and performing with a woodwind quintet, and is very excited to be at Juilliard.
