After two major snowstorms and long dreary winter days, along with the artistic and academic demands of the winter semester at Juilliard, the Office of Student Affairs brought in the spring with the annual Spring Picnic. The day of celebrating the new season and the end of the school year took place on the Milstein Plaza on May 4, 2001.

Matthew Way, a second year college music student, coordinated the music that brought together students, administration, and faculty outdoors to bask in the beautiful 80-degree weather. Hundreds of people gathered on the plaza to enjoy the entertainment, which included stimulating dance pieces, comedy routines, and musical performances, all provided by our students.

“It’s a great community feeling, students coming together to perform, relax, and enjoy a beautiful day,” said Catherine Charlton, director of Student Affairs. Some members of the crowd also enjoyed 15-minute back rubs provided by Massage On the Go, as well as tarot card readings and tasty picnic food such as hot dogs, subs, ice cream, pretzels, and fresh fruit. It was a much-needed respite from the demands of a busy semester, and a tantalizing taste of the summer to come.
