The Directing Workshop for Theater Educators consists of five days of practicums and rehearsal sessions to be held Monday, July 23, through Friday, July 27, 2012, at The Juilliard School in New York City. It provides an opportunity to study and work under the guidance of professional mentors. The workshop is designed for those actively participating in drama or theater at the high school and college levels — regardless of their level of experience with Shakespeare.

Fifteen Directing Fellows will be selected, each of whom will participate in daily practicum sessions and direct a two-hour rehearsal. 

Fifteen Participants will be selected, each of whom will participate in daily practicum sessions and observe rehearsals.

APPLY FOR ONE OF TWO LEVELS

Directing Fellow
Fifteen Directing Fellows will be selected to

  • direct a two-hour rehearsal under the guidance of a professional mentor
  • observe two additional rehearsals
  • participate in practicums

The Directing Fellow fee is $2,000 for 2 credits.

Participants
Fifteen Participants will be selected to observe rehearsals and participate in practicums.
The Participant fee is $1,200 for 1 credit.

All applicants must submit:

  • An application form
  • A $40 non-refundable application fee in U.S. dollars
  • A letter of intent that briefly describes your reasons for applying to the Workshop
  • A résumé

In addition to the materials above, Directing Fellows must also submit two letters of recommendation.

HOUSING AND MEALS
Limited housing is available in Juilliard's Meredith Willson Residence Hall. The residence hall is located next to The Juilliard School, and each dormitory-style suite contains five bedrooms (two singles and three doubles with bunk beds), two-and-a-half bathrooms and a living room. Only bed linens are provided; residents must provide all other necessities.

Cost for 7 days, 6 nights: $500
(Guests may check in Sunday afternoon and check out Saturday morning.)

No meal plan is provided during the workshop, but food is available on campus at the Juilliard Cafeteria. There are also numerous restaurants in the Lincoln Center area within a short distance of The Juilliard School.
