July 15 - July 27, 2012
The long-running Summer Percussion Seminar is designed specifically for advanced high-school percussionists, who must have reached age 15 at the time of their application and must not have graduated from high school prior to July 15, 2012.
During two intensive weeks in the exciting cultural environment of New York's Lincoln Center, students pursue hands-on study of all the major percussion instruments: two and four-mallet keyboard, snare drum, timpani, and orchestral accessories. In addition, students are introduced to world hand drums, percussion chamber music, and both multi- and solo-percussion repertoire. Seminar participants will experience a challenging range of master classes, clinics, lectures, rehearsals, and performances—all of this activity focused on preparing them for success in conservatory and college auditions. DEADLINE TO APPLY AND SUBMIT AUDITION MATERIAL: Friday, February 24, 2012
Audition Requirements
Applicants should submit the following for their audition submission:
- One snare drum solo or etude of your choice
- One two-mallet solo or etude of your choice
- One timpani solo or etude of your choice
- One four-mallet solo or etude of your choice
Audition Submission
All materials must be submitted online or postmarked by February 24, 2012:
- Complete online application
- $50 application fee
- Letter of recommendation from primary music instructor (optional)
- Audition recording (via ArtsApp or separate recording)
Applicants should review their submission for clarity before submitting. Audition recordings may be submitted in one of two ways:
.mov, .m4v, .mp4, .mpg, .mvb, .swf, .wmv). Total portfolio size needs to be under 7GB, with a 800MB limit per file. For technical support with your ArtsApp video submission, contact support@artsapp.com. The fee for submitting your audition video via ArtsApp is $5, payable on the ArtsApp Web site.
In place of an online submission, students are welcome to mail an audio or video recording. Recordings must be clearly labeled with player’s name, age, and musical selections performed. DVD, CD-R, iMovie, Quicktime, CD MP3 and mini-disc are acceptable. Please inquire regarding other formats. Recordings will not be returned.
All applicants will receive
notification of their admissions status via email no later than April 6th.
Upon review of
video auditions, the faculty will select 16 percussionists for
acceptance. A
short waiting list is also established at this time.
Tuition
Tuition and fees, including room and board, for the 2012 Seminar areTBD. The 2011 Seminar fees totaled $1,415.
