Important Deadlines

  1. The following materials must be RECEIVED BY the December 1, 2016 deadline:

Applications without Proof of English Language Proficiency (if applicable) by December 1 will be discontinued – late materials will not be accepted.

  1. Pre-screening materials, if required, must be received by December 1, 2016.
  2. All other supplemental parts (transcripts, dossier, letters of recommendation) may be sent after receipt of official audition invitation and must be received by February 15, 2017. 

Incomplete files may affect consideration by the Doctoral Governance Committee. It is your responsibility to ensure that all required materials have been received by the appropriate deadlines.

Private Teachers

  • We encourage applicants to research all studio faculty for their departments by reviewing faculty bios, recordings, consulting with your current teachers and any current or former students of our faculty. You should conduct your research before you audition.
  • Though it is not required, it is common for applicants to set up a meeting/lesson with studio faculty members in advance of their auditions. While Admissions does not make arrangements for such meetings, we can provide contact information for teachers who have indicated their availability to meet with prospective applicants. Due to their schedules, not all faculty are able to meet with applicants. You are welcome to e-mail Admissions to request contact information for up to four studio faculty members. Scheduling and payment is then up to you.
  • Teacher selections are confidential. This means that studio faculty are not advised of the teacher preference selections you make on your application until after admissions decisions are finalized and the teachers are consulted about studio availability.
  • Your audition will be scheduled based on the availability of your first-choice teacher, as noted on your application, to hear you perform. If your first-choice teacher will not attend auditions, you will be scheduled based on your second-choice teacher's attendance, and so on. For departments with larger faculty, not all teachers attend all audition days. Therefore, it may not be possible for all of your preferred teachers to hear your audition.
  • Once auditions are scheduled, Juilliard cannot make any changes to the audition schedule. Audition dates/times cannot be changed due to an update or change in your teacher preferences.
  • Admissions processes all studio assignments for new students. No assignment can be confirmed without a request in writing from the student (via an online form, e-mail, or letter).

Standardized Tests

Juilliard does not require the GRE. However, applicants who are taking the tests are welcome to send results to the Admissions Office. The Juilliard School’s CEEB code is 2340.

The Admissions Office reserves the right to seek additional information from former teachers, administrators, or guidance counselors to assist with admissions decisions.

Mailing Instructions

  • Supplemental materials should be sent using mailing systems that can be tracked (i.e. FedEx, UPS, or registered mail) so that you can confirm they were received by Juilliard by the appropriate deadline.
  • The mailing address should contain your major and specify the enclosed material (please see example below). However, if mailing a check, please do not put any references to it on the envelope (you may simply write "Application Materials").
  • Please send required materials well in advance of the deadline(s) so that they are RECEIVED BY the appropriate date(s).
  • Failure to follow the recommended mailing format and instructions may result in your application being discontinued.

Currently Enrolled Juilliard College Students

  1. Currently enrolled Juilliard students seeking to enter a new program of study must apply formally by the appropriate application deadline and must audition during published audition dates. Auditions for the Doctor of Musical Arts will not serve as graduation juries.
  2. Current students are not required to submit pre-screening materials unless applying to a different major (if applicable).
  3. The application fee of $110 will be waived for all current students who submit their applications on or before the deadline.
  4. Current students who missed the appropriate application deadline must make an appointment with the Associate Dean for Enrollment Management to request approval of a late application. If approved, the full fee of $110 will be charged. In general, late applications are only approved if auditions slots are available; for pre-screened majors, late applications may only be considered at the conclusion of pre-screening.
  5. Current students do not need to request Juilliard or previous schools’ transcripts be sent to Admissions.
  6. Current students do not need to submit another TOEFL.
  7. Current students must submit the dossier and letters of recommendation.
  8. The Admissions Office reserves the right to review a student’s enrollment record to assist with admissions decisions.

Formerly Enrolled Juilliard Students

  1. Former college students who have not been in attendance during the previous academic year and who plan to apply for readmission must submit an application and fee to the Office of Admissions by the appropriate deadline.
  2. All former students applying for readmission are required to submit pre-screening materials (if applicable) and take the regular entrance auditions.
  3. Former college students do not need to request Juilliard transcripts be sent to Admissions, however, they should provide transcripts for any other institutions attended after their tenure at Juilliard, to be received by February 15.
  4. Former college students do not need to submit another TOEFL.
  5. Former college students DO HAVE TO submit the dossier and letters of recommendation.
  6. The Admissions Office reserves the right to review a student’s enrollment record to assist with admissions decisions.
  7. The Juilliard School statute of limitations policy limits the amount of time allowed to elapse between a student’s original enrollment in a program of study and completion of that program.

Applicants With Disabilities

The Juilliard School seeks to facilitate the full participation of applicants with disabilities in the audition process. The School makes reasonable accommodations or adjustments for qualified individuals with known disabilities in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (A.D.A.). Juilliard will not make pre-admissions inquiries as to whether or not a student has a disability; however, applicants with documented disabilities who require reasonable accommodations in order to participate in the audition process must notify the Office of Academic Support and Disability Services (OASDS) in writing by December 15 to the address below. Applicants will be required to submit documentation of their disability to OASDS, and to complete an Applicant Release of Disability Related Information Form and an Audition Accommodation Request Form. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
