Matthew Johnson

Matthew Johnson (he/him) is a Brooklyn, New York native. Johnson trained at Edward R. Murrow High School and The Ailey School, and attended summer programs at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Springboard Danse Montreal. At Juilliard, he performed works by Ohad Naharin, Jawole Willa Jo Zolar, Spenser Theberge and Jermaine Spivey, among others. Johnson made his Broadway debut as Baby John in the revival of West Side Story in 2019 and enjoyed several immersive theater opportunities in 2021 and 2022. He was featured in a Dance Spirit Magazine article titled “The Look-Back Trap: How Dancers can cope with fears of falling behind.” In October 2022, he performed a self-choreographed solo in collaboration with the Merce Cunningham Trust at Baryshnikov Arts Center. Johnson is so excited for what is to come, and is grateful for all of the support from his friends and family.
