Shana Komitee joined the Drama Division in 2012, the inaugural year of the MFA program, and is also on faculty in the Evening Division. She teaches theater history and literature and provides dramaturgy for all Drama Division performances. Before coming to Juilliard, Ms. Komitee lived in and wrote about ethnic conflict in Northern Ireland and worked at the Center for Jewish-Arab Economic Development in Tel Aviv. After four years in the Middle East, Ms. Komitee returned to the United States to pursue a joint MA/PhD at Harvard University in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and Performance Studies. She was awarded four Harvard University Bok Center Certificates of Distinction in undergraduate teaching fellowship. Ms. Komitee is the author of A Student’s Guide to Performance Studies and the text for the first Juilliard Open Studios episode on Tony Kushner's Angels in America, among other works. Outside Juilliard, Ms. Komitee provides dramaturgy at various New York City theaters, including most recently Manhattan Theatre Club and the Pearl Theatre Company.
