An elegy composed by the 81-year old Strauss grieving destruction of cultural treasures as World War II was ending
RZEWSKI Coming Together (1971)
Composed in response to the 1971 Attica Prison uprising, with a spoken text written by one of its’ leaders
Steve REICH Mallet Quartet (2009)
Written for two marimbas and two vibraphones in the same year that Reich was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Music
COLERIDGE-TAYLOR Nonet in F Minor (1893)
An under-represented English composer with a style some have compared to Mahler, this was written when he was 18
