Born in Munich, Germany

Early training on the violin; began bass studies at the age of 12, and later studied cello with George Neikrug and Stephen Kates. Has served as principal bass of both the National Chamber Orchestra of New York and I Solisti New York. Became principal bass of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in 1985 and has appeared as a featured soloist with that orchestra. Author of The Double Bass Workbook; has recorded Favorites for Double Bass, a collection of his own transcriptions. Appears frequently in recital with his wife, pianist Patricia Wood. Faculty, Aspen Music Festival, since 1994; serves as principal bass of the Aspen Chamber Symphony and performs chamber music with other members of the Aspen artist-faculty. Associate professor of double bass at the U. of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he has performed chamber music with members of the faculty both in Cincinnati and in New York's Merkin Hall.
