Born in Chicago, Ill.
Principal clarinet, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Performed "Air and Simple Gifts" by John Williams with Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Gabriela Montero at the inauguration of President Barack Obama, January 2009. Winner, Avery Fisher Career Grant (2000). Has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Baltimore Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, the Curtis Orchestra, and others. As a chamber musician, has performed at the Marlboro Music Festival, Sarasota Festival, Tanglewood, Music@Menlo, Music from Angel Fire, Interlochen Music Festival, and many more. Has appeared on Performance Today, NPR's St. Paul Sunday, Ravinia's Rising Star Series, on the Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood television show, and at Lincoln Center as a member of Chamber Music Society Two. Faculty member, Peabody Institute, Mannes College the New School for Music, and the Manhattan School of Music Precollege. Master classes at Curtis, U. of Michigan, Stony Brook U., Temple U., U.C.L.A., U. of New Mexico, and the Manhattan School of Music.

Attended Interlochen Arts Academy and the Curtis Institute of Music; studies with Donald Montanaro, Richard Hawkins, Larry Combs, Julie DeRoche, David Tuttle, and Sidney Forrest.
