Born in Detroit, MI

Principal trombonist, New York Philharmonic, since 1985; also served as second trombonist of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Montreal Symphony. Made his solo debut with the N.Y. Philharmonic in April 1990, performing Creston's Fantasy for Trombone; in 1992 premiered Christopher Rouse's Pulitzer Prize-winning Trombone Concerto, also with the N.Y. Philharmonic. Has appeared as guest soloist with the Lincoln Symphony; National Repertory Orchestra; Colorado Symphony Orchestra; Syracuse Symphony; Santa Barbara Symphony; New Japan Philharmonic; Orchestra of Teatro Bellini in Catania, Sicily; Mannheim National Theater Orchestra; National Symphony of Taiwan; Puerto Rico Symphony; and the Hauge Philharmonic. Soloist for the 2000 Grammy Award-winning recording of George Crumb's Starchild on the Bridge label; other recordings on the Cala and Summit labels. Recipient of 2002 International Trombone Association Award, given to an individual who has greatly influenced the field of trombone.
