Joohyun Kate Kim(Song) holds a Bachelor’s of Music degree from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea, where she studied with EnSik Choi. She was the recipient of the Genevieve Thomachot Hustead Scholarship when she studied for her Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School and studied with Toby Appel. She has won the Korea Chamber Orchestra's Grand Prize in Viola. As a chamber player, she performed with her sisters as The Song Trio in Korea, in Japan, and in the United States. She participated in Chamber Festival '07 at Lincoln Center, and her Walton Piano Quartet group was chosen to play an encore at Alice Tully Hall. She was also invited to play as a guest performer for String Seminars at NYU.

Ms. Kim was the principal viola of the Tribeca Film Festival and the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra under the director of Myung-hoon Chung; the Seoul National University Orchestra; and the Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, which was exclusively coached by members of the Orpheus Orchestra. She was a guest member of KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean Symphony, Bucheon Philharmonic, Korea Chamber Orchestra, and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. She performed with Combo Nuovo and members of Silkroad and The Knights. She has recorded scores for over 50 films and CDs. Ms. Kim teaches talented students in the tri-state area, and her students have won national and international competitions and entered major music conservatories. She has also taught at New York University. She lives in Little Neck with her husband and two children.
