Born in Passaic, NJ

Co-founder and artistic director, Bowdoin International Music Festival. Founder and violinist, Aeolian Chamber Players. Tours in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Chamber music and conducting appearances with Michael Rabin, Jaime Laredo, Szymon Goldberg, Richard Goode, Rudolf Firkusny, Murray Perahia, Yefim Bronfman, and others. Premiered more than 50 works including two by George Crumb. Recordings for Columbia, CRI, Folkways, and Odyssey Records. Served on juries of international competitions including Queen Elisabeth, Brussels; Fritz Kreisler, Vienna; Mozart, Salzburg; Naumburg, New York; Tokyo and Sendai, Japan. Master classes at most major music institutions worldwide. Awarded the Knight's Cross of the Federal Republic of Germany (2009). Holder of William Schuman Scholar's Chair at Juilliard, 2010-11. Violin faculties, International Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg, 1987-2007; Mannes College the New School for Music since 1986; visiting professor, Royal College of Music, London, since 1998.
