Liberal Arts faculty member Anita Mercier, of Miami, Fla., is a specialist in political theory and gender studies. She has published many articles on women in the field of classical music. She is author of Guilhermina Suggia: Cellist (Ashgate, 2008), a biography of the Portuguese cellist. In 1985, she was visiting scholar at Cambridge University. Mercier was preceptor of the political science department at Columbia University from 1985-90 and was a history teacher at the Horace Mann School from 1991-95. Mercier received her bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University and her master’s and doctoral degrees in political science from Columbia University; she also attended Cambridge University in England.
