Programs

Juilliard’s community engagement programs benefit various audiences in New York City and around the world, sharing the extraordinary talents of Juilliard students and spreading the joy of the performing arts. They also give the students the benefit of teaching and performing in diverse communities, helping them to develop as artists and citizens. 

Programs

As artists, we have the ability to bring joy and healing to many people who might otherwise never experience it. This is an immense and wonderful responsibility, and I’m so thankful to the Gluck Fellowship for providing us with opportunities to take it on.

Juilliard's Office of Community Engagement facilitates performing and student teaching partnerships with organizations throughout New York City. 

The broad range of teaching and interactive performance programs includes individual and group instruction in classical and jazz music, dance, and theater; introductory classroom enrichment sessions in music concepts and performance preparation; interactive dance and music performances for grades K through 12 and health-care facilities; and a Saturday music program at Juilliard providing underserved 8 to 14 year olds with weekly instruction and mentoring.

Grants

The Juilliard School offers funding each year for projects conceived by Juilliard students who employ their talent in public service programs. Activities like these deepen the students’ understanding of their role and impact as artists. Preference is given to projects that have not only educational value to the student beyond conventional artistic or academic studies, but also potential benefit to others, especially those in underserved areas of the United States.

We had the pleasure of experiencing a variety of Middle Eastern cultural and musical practices when we used our Juilliard Community Engagement Grant for The Joining Hands Project, which aimed to promote peace and connect people through music.
