Juilliard Black Alumni Association - JBAA

Purpose, Mission, and History

Founded in 2020, the Juilliard Black Alumni Association (JBAA) joined forces with the Office of Alumni Relations and was formalized as Juilliard’s first alumni group in 2023 with a mission to create a long-standing interdependent relationship by promoting the welfare of the community’s dance, drama, and music divisions. The JBAA serves as a bridge between all students, including Black students, faculty, and administration by providing resources, advisement, and mentorship.

The JBAA raises money for scholarships and project grants given to students throughout the academic year and summer. The group also helps organize recruitment days on campus during the school year. Mentorship resources consist of JBAA members mentoring students (as part of the JBAA mentorship program) but also supporting fellow alumni through networking and job opportunities.

Through its mission and purpose, the JBAA enriches the health of Juilliard by addressing long-standing needs and demands of not only the community on campus but the entire student, faculty, and administrative bodies. JBAA is open to all current Juilliard students and alumni, and they are eligible to participate in all of JBAA’s programs. We firmly believe that our mission attracts prospective students to the school, especially once they see an established association of graduates who can serve as an invaluable resource to them.
