Renée Marie Baron has been an associate professor of Liberal Arts and American Studies at Juilliard since 2004. She has served as the faculty advisor for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) initiatives since 2019. Besides Writing Seminar and core classes, her primary teaching interests include American literature, African American literature, and Caribbean literature. Dr. Baron is active in many scholarly organizations, such as the Caribbean Studies Association and the Collegium of African American Research. She has published essays, encyclopedia entries, and book reviews in venues such as The Zora Neale Hurston Forum, American Studies International, and Encyclopedia of African American History. Baron writes and presents on the Harlem Renaissance and contemporary playwright Lynn Nottage. She is currently in the beginning stages of researching a cultural history of black experience in the New York suburb New Rochelle and dabbling in essay writing for a popular audience.
