Voice teacher Myra Vassian, born in Maryville, Mo., has sung opera, oratorio, concert, chamber music, musical theater, cabaret, and radio appearances in the U.S. and Switzerland. She performed the role of Anne in the world premiere of Swiss composer Jost Meier’s Der Zoobaer. She has also worked as musical director for regional and Off-Broadway productions. Vassian has been director of music at the City Church, New York, for 10 years. She formerly held teaching positions at Berne Conservatory, Switzerland, and Davidson College, N.C. She has worked as a private voice teacher for more than 30 years in the U.S and Switzerland and has maintained her current Manhattan studio since 1995. Vassian received her bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, Tex., and her master’s from Western Carolina University, N.C. She received her Artist Diploma from Biel/Basel Opera Studio in Switzerland. She was a recipient of the Rotary International Scholarship for studies at the Zurich Conservatory of Music, Switzerland. She has studied with Joyce Farwell, Thomas Houser, and Bruce Kolb and has been a Juilliard Evening Division faculty member since 2007.
